About the Founder

Michelle Madrid-BranchAML's founder, Michelle Madrid-Branch, is a former television news anchor and is the author of a growing series of children's books on adoption, including the highly acclaimed book "The Tummy Mummy," as well as the adult book, "Adoption Means Love, Triumph of the Heart." As a person of international adoption, she is also a committed activist for adoption. Michelle and her husband Jeff Branch, a real estate developer, formed The AML Foundation with the vision that "all adoptable children will find the loving families destined to be theirs, and the world will celebrate adoption on every continent." That vision is alive and growing in the state of New Mexico, where AML is focusing its work to support children in foster care and to educate and advocate on behalf of adoption.

Madrid-Branch brings a unique perspective to her work. As a person of international adoption, as well as the adoptive parent of a little boy from Russia, she brings a personal passion to help others embrace the very essence of adoption: the transformation and triumph of the experience. Madrid-Branch’s work and message have been included in numerous publications around the world. Adoption Australia Magazine has called her a “world voice for adoption.”

In 2006, Madrid-Branch was inducted into the New Mexico Women’s Hall of Fame. Governor Bill Richardson honored Madrid-Branch with the prestigious “Governor’s Award for Outstanding New Mexico Women” and applauded her efforts on behalf of adoption, both at home and abroad. Also in 2006, Dolce Vita Magazine named her book “Adoption Means Love: Triumph of the Heart” a Top Five Inspirational Book for the year. In 2005, Madrid-Branch was featured in Woman’s Day Magazine as a woman “answering her calling.” The article helped extend Michelle’s message to a national and international level. Nominated by U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, in 2004 Madrid-Branch was presented with the highest honor in adoption work: the Congressional Angels in Adoption Award. In his nomination of her for the award, the Senator stated, “I am amazed by Michelle’s … dedication to making a difference in the lives of children. Michelle is living proof that children of adoption are achievers who can reach any level of success…I am grateful to have such a role model among us.”

Message from Michelle Madrid-Branch, Founder

“I founded AML because I believe in the triumph and transformation of adoption. I believe it is in a child’s best interest to have a ‘forever family’ and to understand ‘forever love.’ As a person of international adoption, I have been blessed with this understanding.

Adoption provides the basic needs we all yearn for – forever love, forever family, forever security, forever safety, forever hope. As we all know, though, for far too many children and youth in northern New Mexico and across our state – these basic needs can seem like far away dreams, meant for someone else.

The AML Foundation holds as its highest priority the well being of children who dream of, someday, having a forever family to call their own. We are making strong strides forward as we address the needs of New Mexico's most vulnerable kids. AML would not be here today without the support of our friends and donors, volunteers, ambassadors, community supporters, board members, and tremendous staff! Thank you!”
